Abstract
Background: Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) represent a group of lymphoproliferative disorders, with a limited understanding of their clinical spectrum, primary extra nodal variety, particularly in developing countries. The objective of the study was to evaluate the Association of Hepatitis B and HIV infection in patients diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Method: In this Observational Retrospective study of diagnosed cases of NHL was conducted on 410 cases and we extracted information from electronic medical records. Tumors were reclassified according to the WHO.
Results: In the present study 5.6% of NHL cases were associated with HIV positive status and 1.7% of NHL cases were associated with HBsAg positive status. Extra nodal lymphomas were more common in HIV+ve patients with 67.8% (38/56) and DLBCL-ABC being the commonest subtype. In HBsAG+ve patients only nodal lymphomas were seen with Follicular lymphoma being the commonest subtype.
Conclusion: The study highlights the HBsAg +ve patients are associated with nodal and low-grade NHL, with Follicular lymphoma being the commonest subset. Whereas extra nodal and high-grade NHL are common among the retro positive cases with DLBCL-ABC being the commonest subset. In addition, it shows the higher risk for NHL represents for improving, prevention, diagnosis and management of HIV and HbsAg patients.
